How a pint-sized firefighter became a hero to heroes.
heart transplant | I wish to be a fireman
Tyren is already one of Detroit’s bravest, and with the help of Make-A-Wish® and Detroit’s Engine 54 he made it official. As a heart transplant survivor, Tyren’s battle began long before he donned his captain’s hat and turned on his hose, and he quickly showed everyone just how much heart he really has.
Tyren got to spend the day with real Detroit firefighters, wearing his very own uniform as he took a ride in the truck. Make-A-Wish staff and volunteers pulled out all the stops, from captain’s badges to dalmatians, to make sure that Tyren’s day at the firehouse would be yet another special one as he continues to get stronger and stronger. The new fire chief even impressed the department vets right away with his attitude and determination.
“Every day we fight battles when it comes to fire,” said DFD Chief of Community Relations Dale Bradley. “And for him to fight the battle, it just gives us more encouragement.”
